Carcool is an app where relatives who take care of the old people in their family offer to take along their way other elderly that would like to go to the same destination.
A useful, safe, and social concept.
All our drivers go through a thorough background check before being approved.
We encourage everyone to be free and independent at every age, going anywehre, anytime as you wish.
Enjoying a free ride in a good company while preserving out planet? it is now possible!
We have worked along seniors to develop an ergonomic and friendly application. Scoll down to learn more about it.
Nothing is better than user-testing when you have a
wireframe. So we chose 3 seniors in our respective circles to test our idea.
You can click here to find our user-tests.
Or you can find the three resume here:
Anne-Marie Perret: "I like the idea and I could participate as a driver today. In 10 years, it would be rather the opposite. The Carcool app is easy and beautiful but it could be better with big letters and adapted colors."
Robert El Haddad: "Good idea but a lot of details to improve... you should separate old payments from the payment page to avoid impacting application performance, put "@", "-" and "_" on the keyboard to type your email address faster, we can not see past wrinkles..."
Josette Danteny: "I will say that it is a great idea. Afterwards, you need to see if a lot of people will want to add constraints by driving old people. If there are enough participants, it can be really nice. I think there is maybe a lack of possibility in the navigation of the user."
When? Where? Who? Why?
We realized that the elderly were often isolated. They represent one
seventh of the world population, so approximately 900 million people.
In 2018, there were 13.1 million over 65 in France. It is a growing
market because of the increase in life expectancy.
For whom?
We decided to focus on seniors who may feel isolated, don't have access to to public transportation for every-day life actions. They may not be healthy enough to drive themselves around, or may be not be financially stable to afford their own car.
In any case, those people could benefit form the help of the civil society. Furthermore, more than half of adults over 65 own smartphones (according to Pew Research Center) so it doesn't represent a big issue for our project. In any case, we will design something accessible and intuitive for our target.
What? How?
We would like to provide a website or an app where relatives who take care of the old people in their family could offer to take along their way other old people in the neighbourhood that would like to go to the same destination. A schedule will display the planned trips, and if a ride is is scheduled last minute, the people living near by will receive a notification to let them know about it. Then, people can just "join" or not the car. Our project aims to help seniors by promoting carpooling. Based on solidarity, carpooling will improve the mobility of our seniors and fight their isolation. The car will become a space for exchanges and will allow them to discover a new taste for ordinary activities such as going to the supermarket, visiting their family or going to do any activities.List of concurrents, relative projects and how they relate, differentiate to our project:
Books, films, articles...
It is linked to our project because it explains that old people are not confident with apps that ask for money.
It was useful to do our benchmark.
It is an interesting article because it raises the under-exploited interest of carpooling in the economic and environmental fields.
It explains how municipal carpooling can break the isolation for old people.
